A trip to Milan

We walk the park in the morning …

and find the Gallery of Modern Art with a sculpture show by Angiola Tremonti, then we go inside …

and meet this lovely marble girl by Antonio Canova. Now you understand, in an Italian perspective “modern art” begins with the neoclassicism of the 18th century.

Canova himself was sculpted by Raimondo Trentanove.

A plaster sketch of the goddess of youth, Hebe, of which Canova made some different marbles.

Canova occasionally worked in bronze too. This is Emperor Napoleon I.
