The Carl Michael Bellman celebration

This weekend in Stockholm there are some events that commemorate the 18th century poet and musician Carl Michael Bellman. On Saturday 1500 hrs the Par Bricole Society has a guided tour in English through its HQ which is a house where Bellman lived for a couple of years. Address: Urvädersgränd 3 in Södermalm. During the tour the troubadour Jan Skårstedt will perform some of Bellman’s works. On Sunday the open air museum Skansen dedicates the whole day to the memory of Bellman. There will be music, dancing shows and servings of food and drink in 18th century style.
Finally on Monday 26 July 1300 hrs there will again be a tour in the Par Bricole house, in Swedish this time. A group from the Par Bricole male choir, including me, will sing. At 1600 hrs we gather in the garden by Hasselbacken for more entertainment, to close the day with a remembrance walk with more music and a speech before the Bellman statue in Djurgården. The very place is called Bellmansro, “Bellman’s rest”. Be there at 1800 hrs if you can’t make it for the walk!
