The place name made me wonder if the film had any connection to Nietzsche, but it has not. I find rather some Strindberg in this story about women destroying each other. Kristen Stewart is great in it. Only the music disappointed me. Well-known classics in muzak-like arrangements. In one scene there is, on the other hand, a live performance of a work by Händel which is well suited to the drama.

“Wanderer above the sea of fog” by Caspar David Friedrich (1818). File from English Wikipedia.
This cannot be a coincidence. I believe John Lennon was familiar with Friedrich’s painting already when he studied art in Liverpool, and for sure when the Beatles stayed in Hamburg he saw it in the Kunsthalle.

Astrid Kirchherr (Sheryl Lee): Will you come back?

Stu Sutcliffe (Stephen Dorff): I’ll write.

Astrid: I don’t like letters!

Stu: I’ll write anyway.

Astrid: I have to see your eyes when you talk to me.

Stu: You don’t have to open them. You can throw them in a drawer, and then when I come back, you can open them and have a laugh!

From the film Backbeat by Iain Softley (1994).

Unknown origin

The journalist (Åke Engfeldt): Do you believe in love at first sight?

The famous actor (Adolf Jahr): Certainly. It saves a lot of time!

I heard this in Swedish in the film En sjöman i frack (A sailor wearing tails), 1942. When I search it in English I get many hits, but no source is given. I doubt that the script writers Ragnar Arvedson and Börje Larsson invented it. It’s witty anyway!
